Sourav Ganguly says: “I think Virat Kohli is more skilful than I am.”

On Thursday, Kohli hit a century for the first time since 2019 when he began the batting against Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup.

Former India captain and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly praised Virat Kohli, saying the star batter is a better player than him. Kohli, who had been out of form, found it at the Asia Cup 2022, when he scored his first international century since November 2019. His century against Afghanistan was his first in the 20-over format, and it was his first in over three years. His previous century came in a Test match against Bangladesh.

The former India skipper also stated that Kohli would continue to play and will have more matches in India’s shirt than him.

“The comparison should be in terms of skill as a player. I think he is more skilful than I’m. We played in different generations, and we played a lot of cricket. I played in my generation, and he will continue playing, probably playing more games than I did. At present moment, I have played more than what he has but he’ll get past that. He is tremendous,” Ganguly stated to reporters.

“He’s a very big player, there for a long time. I know he has his own formula to score runs. It’s not possible that players of his stature can’t have such a long lean patch, I know he will definitely score runs. If he was not a great player, he would not have scored so many runs for so long,” Ganguly added.

When asked how younger cricketers should deal with the glamour and splendor of modern-day cricket, the seasoned left-handed batter told them to focus and devote their time to the game, and the rest would come.

“Yeah, the game is different, the game is faster… shorter and faster, more sixes, more boundaries, not many deliveries left outside the off stump. So the game has changed,” Ganguly added.

The BCCI President has already endorsed Kohli. In an interview with reporters ahead of the Asia Cup, Ganguly praised the star batter as a significant player and predicted that he will find form throughout the event.
