Moeen Ali to captain Sharjah Warriors in the UAE International League T20
Moeen Ali, vice-captain of England’s World Cup-winning Twenty20 squad, has been elected captain of the Sharjah Warriors in the first UAE International League T20, with former England assistant head coach Paul Farbrace taking over as coach of the Capri Global-owned side and R Sridhar as the director of cricket and Matthew Maynard as the batting coach.

Sharjah Warriors will play their first match against the MI Emirates, and they have announced their campaign captain. Moeen Ali will captain the squad in the forthcoming competition, the team announced on social media. Moeen expressed his joy about the captaincy duties and noted that they may choose to be aggressive while still being prudent in order to win the competition.

“It is a great honour and would be a pleasure to lead Sharjah Warriors. In this format, anybody can beat anybody, and it is important to keep evolving. With the team at our disposal, we can play aggressive, yet sensible cricket and, hopefully, be in the mix towards the business end of the ILT20. Playing at world-class facilities and, especially the iconic Sharjah Stadium, is a very exciting prospect, and we are all looking forward to it,” Ali stated.

Former England assistant coach Farbrace will be crucial on the strategy. “The T20 format has been challenging and yet most rewarding,” said Farbrace who helped Sri Lanka win the 2014 Asia Cup as well as the ICC World T20 title in the same year Known as a T20 wizard, he temporarily served as England’s interim national coach in between spells as Peter Moores’ and Trevor Bayliss’ deputy, and he has coached several of England’s current World T20 winning crop over the previous decade.

Matthew Maynard will be the franchise’s batting coach, while G Jayakumar will be the team’s bowling coach. R Sridhar, a former India fielding coach, will be the Director of Cricket, with Kshemal Waingankar as the Chief Operating Officer.
