“I think we didn’t capitalise in those last five overs,” says Faf du Plessis RCB skipper

Suryakumar Yadav, who spearheaded the team’s chase with an 83-run innings off 35 balls, helped Mumbai Indians overcome Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets on Tuesday at the Wankhede Stadium. MI needed 16.3 overs to complete the 200-run chase. Along with Suryakumar, Nehal Wadhera made an important contribution, hitting 52 runs off 34 balls. Ishan Kishan’s 42 off 21 had given MI a boost in the big chase.

Earlier, RCB reached 199 for 6 in 20 overs. Faf du Plessis struck 65 off 41 balls, while Glenn Maxwell struck 68 off 33. Jason Behrendorff was MI’s leading bowler, going 3 for 36. After winning the toss, MI captain Rohit Sharma elected to bowl first. RCB appeared to be on track to score more than 210. But, in the end, Mumbai pulled things back and regained momentum.

Faf du Plessis, skipper of Royal Challengers Bangalore, has acknowledged to being dissatisfied with his team’s lack of runs in the last five overs at the Wankhede after Mumbai Indians knocked down a 200-run target at a sprint.

“At least 20 runs,” when asked how close his squad was to a potential winning score, du Plessis informed the broadcaster.

“I think in the context of the wickets so far this season it feels like anything under 220 with Mumbai’s powerful batting line-up, and obviously they are a strong chasing team and bat very deep,” du Plessis explained. “So we were very disappointed.”

“I think we didn’t capitalise in those last five overs. That’s when on a wicket like this you can really do some damage. So disappointed with the last five overs and the lack of runs,” du Plessis stated.

Suryakumar Yadav, batting for Mumbai Indians, played a knock that will be remembered by fans who saw it. This knock helped MI beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets and move up to third place with 12 points in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Tuesday at the Wankhede Stadium.

Akash got back on track in a big way in the last over after letting up 17 runs in his first over. He only gave away 5 runs in the 20th over, which kept RCB from reaching 200. Rohit hailed the young bowler and said that he has been put in charge of bowling at the end of the game and is very sure of his skills.

“He was with us last year as well and we saw the skillset he brings. All we wanted to do was give him that specific role so he focuses on that and we told him this is what you have to do,” Rohit stated at the post-match presentation ceremony. “I know these are tough overs to bowl but he’s quite confident. When I speak to him, the responses that I get, he is quite confident. He is a leader as well. He leads his Uttarakhand team. So he has got a lot of knowledge about how he wants to bowl, what sort of field placements he wants to have,” he added.
 
 
 
With this win, MI is now in third place. They have won six games and lost five. They have 12 points in all. RCB is now in seventh place because they have only won five games and lost six. They have six points in all.
 
Suryakumar hit six sixes and seven fours, which helped Mumbai reach the goal in 16.3 overs. This was the fastest time in IPL history that a team reached a goal of 200 or more.
 
 
 
“Suryakumar is one of the best isn’t he? When he gets going, he’s really difficult to bowl to,” du Plessis said. “He makes a captain extremely grey because he’s got so many options. You don’t feel like you can really shut him down,” he explained. “That’s why I said he is one of the greats at the moment,” Du Plessis concluded.
