Alexandre Pantoja beats Brandon Moreno to win UFC Flyweight Title

In the co-main event of UFC 290, Brandon Moreno and Alexandre Pantoja squared off for the UFC flyweight championship. Pantoja had won his previous three matches, including victories over Manel Kape, Brandon Royval, and Alex Perez. On the other hand, Moreno had just defeated Kai Kara-France and Deiveson Figueiredo by two straight stoppages.

With seven years having passed since Pantoja’s tap of Moreno on The Ultimate Fighter, Moreno and Pantoja were squaring off for the third time in all contests. Two years later, in their professional rematch, Moreno lost by decision; as a result, the UFC cut him. Pantoja rushed Moreno to open the fight, but Moreno did a nice job of changing positions to push Pantoja up against the fence. As Moreno strung together some strong combinations, the Las Vegas audience was roaring him on, but they were hushed when Pantoja felled him with a left hand.

Pantoja immediately made it clear to the winner that he would be facing a serious challenge. The Brazilian ripped him open from atop with a vicious elbow after dropping him with a left hand.In the third round, the fight’s momentum changed once more as both competitors kept pressing one another. Pantoja threatened Moreno with a choke attempt of his own and seized Moreno’s back. However, Moreno fought back and had a few good moments as well, making the round seem crucial.Additionally, the championship rounds did not disappoint.

Like two skilled fighters who are familiar with one another, Moreno and Pantoja engaged in combat. Over the course of the whole 25 minutes, four rounds were interrupted by spectacular striking exchanges as the tide swung back and forth. On the scorecards, Pantoja was given the victory by two out of the three judges due to takedowns and damage.

Brandon Moreno has now lost to Alexandre Pantoja three times in mixed martial arts following the victory at UFC 290.

Joe Rogan spoke with Pantoja following the bout. He said that because he worked so hard, he adhered to his instruction. He said that as a child, his mother supported just herself and his two brothers. He enquired as to his father’s level of pride in him. His kids hugged each other as they entered the octagon following his interview.

With Pantoja’s victory, Brazil once again has a UFC champion. The country has given birth to some of the greatest fighters in history, but there has never been a champion, and Pantoja is happy to end that questionable run.
