Tyson Fury to face Francis Ngannou in Riyadh for next fight

Boxing heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will meet Francis Ngannou, one of the best heavyweight fighters in mixed martial arts (MMA), in a professional boxing match on October 28 in Saudi Arabia. The crossover fight was announced on Tuesday, following months of anticipation that heightened with Ngannou’s departure from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the world’s top MMA organisation.

The fight will be held under professional boxing standards, with three judges ringside using the 10-point must system. Both warriors, on the other hand, promise to meet in the ring, go to battle, and win by knockout in catastrophic way. Fury returns to the ring after a decisive victory over Derek Chisora in December, when a 10th-round stoppage resulted in a third defence of his WBC world title.

Since leaving the UFC at the conclusion of his contract and signing an unprecedented mega-deal as a worldwide strategic partner with global MMA co-leader Professional Fighters League (PFL) and their Super Fights Division in 2023, Ngannou has had time to prepare for his clash.

Fury is in his prime, having ended his retirement with a TKO victory against Derek Chisora in December. So is Ngannou, who battled out his UFC contract last year and inked a PFL contract that, unlike his UFC contract, lets him to compete in boxing contests. Both men will bring razor-sharp skill sets to the ring.

Despite the fact that no championships will be on the line, the bout will be scored by three judges using the 10-point must system. The competitors will square off in the ring for ten rounds of three minutes each. While it is unclear if the fight will be added to their professional records, the fact that it will take place in a standard ring and be monitored by the commission implies it will be treated as a professional boxing bout.

“This guy is supposed to be the hardest puncher in the world, but let’s see how he reacts when he gets hit by the Big GK,” Fury said, referring to Ngannou. “I can’t wait to get back out there under the lights.” Ngannou mentioned a fight with Fury after the latter defeated Dillian Whyte in April of last year. “I’ve been waiting to meet Tyson in the ring for the past three years. My dream was always to box, and to box the best,” he said.“After becoming the undisputed MMA heavyweight champion, this is my opportunity to make that dream come true and cement my position as the baddest man on the planet.”

According to WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman, Fury gained special permission to fight Ngannou because there is no legitimate challenger. Fury attempted to close matches against Andy Ruiz, Anthony Joshua, and Oleksandr Usyk, according to Sulaiman, but no deals were made. Top Rank and Queensberry, who handle Fury, will co-promote the fight, as will Ngannou’s new brand GIMIK Fight Promotions. The event will be a partnership with the Riyadh Season in Saudi Arabia, culminating in a huge presentation. The fight will be the main event, attracting viewers from all around the world.
