Manchester United vs Liverpool: Red Devils crush Liverpool 2-1
Manchester United defeated Liverpool 2-1 in a game filled of battle, grit, and talent that astonished Jurgen Klopp’s team.
Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag era has officially begun. Manchester United performed a display of energy and enthusiasm to beat arch rival Liverpool and eventually collect its first points in the Premier League this season, despite protests against the club’s ownership.
Nerves of steel.

Both teams came into the game in terrible form, with United losing their first two games of the season and the Reds drawing both of theirs. Meanwhile, United fans were overjoyed with their team’s performance, especially following demoralising defeats to Brighton Hove Albion and Brentford in recent games.
United’s first win under Erik ten Hag was set up by a beautiful goal from Jadon Sancho, while Marcus Rashford capitalised on a sloppy Liverpool defence with a great goal. Mohamed Salah scored late on for Liverpool, but it was too little, too late. Fans took to social media to express their disappointment as Liverpool choked and lost to a United team that had gone winless in the Premier League thus far.
Former Red Devils midfielder Schweinsteiger remarked: “I support United of course and I’m very happy they won the match. But was it a great performance? I wouldn’t say so. Liverpool were the better team with much more possession. They couldn’t finish their last passes otherwise they would have won the game. United did have the right attitude and spirit, though.”
“They have got a very good manager now and I think he is the right man for the position. But was it the way United want to play football? I don’t think so. That was survival mode.”

The home team was considerably more impressive, but Klopp believes his squad might have won three points if they had played with more confidence.
“We are in a tricky situation injury-wise. That’s how it is,” he told reporters. “We get through the week with 14-15 senior player available. We have to make sure that none of them get injured now during the week because there’s no real options left anymore. Even with our situation, if we played a little bit better, a little bit more convinced about what we do, we should have won this game. I know it sounds ridiculous, but that’s how I see it. We lost it and now we go from here.”
On the performance of Liverpool Klopp said: “It wasn’t perfect of course, we lost. They got out of the blocks. We were ready for it but not 100 per cent.”
Klopp added that he expects a much better display when the Reds host Bournemouth: “I don’t have a lot of arguments, we lost the game. On another day, with more conviction about what we are doing, we can turn it around. That is how it is.”
“To play the football we are able to play, we want to fight. We have a good home game on Saturday and Anfield has to be rocking. We have to set the fire and the rhythm. We will try absolutely everything that every Liverpool supporter will expect – we will fight for our lives.”

Roy Keane remarked on his former side’s win: “A brilliant team performance – it’s what the club needed, what the manager needed – outstanding. A great night for the club… Before the match the manager made some big calls and the players responded. They’ve been criticised recently and rightly so…this is a big boost for the manager.”
The victory will provide some relief to under-pressure manager Erik ten Hag, who made a significant statement in his side selection by leaving out star attacker Cristiano Ronaldo and club captain Harry Maguire, and was vindicated.
United go to Southampton to face Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, while Liverpool entertain Bournemouth in search of their first win of the season.
