Asia Cup 2022: Pakistan beat India by five wickets
Pakistan beat India by five wickets in their Super Four match of the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, overcoming odds, terrible starts in both innings, and late drama.
With a target of more than 182, Pakistan lost skipper Babar Azam early on, and Fakhar Zaman struggled as well. With both men back in the dugout and the pursuit unravelling quickly, Babar performed the masterstroke of pushing Mohammad Nawaz up the order.
That's that from another close game against Pakistan.

Nawaz and Rizwan put on a vital 73-run third-wicket stand that put Pakistan back in the game. Nawaz’s boundary-laden 42 off 20 was crucial in helping Pakistan maintain the requisite run pace.
Having said that, Rizwan’s 71 off 51 cannot be overstated. But the little keeper-batter couldn’t finish, and Pakistan needed late cameos from Khushdil Shah (14* off 11) and Asif Ali (16 off 8) to win. The conclusion was not without drama, as Arshdeep Singh lost the easiest of Asif catches, earning Sharma’s fury.
Mohammad Nawaz won player of the match and stated: “For a left arm spinner, it’s important to stick to the basic line and length. If one or two balls turn, that puts doubt into the batters’ minds. After that, I try and stick to line and length. We needed 10 runs per over when I walked in to bat so I knew I had to attack every chance I got. My mind was clear that I’d hit out at every ball in my zone. I didn’t try and overplay, which you sometimes can when you’re under pressure.”
Rohit Sharma remarked on India’s younger players: “It’s a high pressure game and you have to be at it every time. A game like that can take a lot out of you, but we were quite calm at the backend, even in the middle when Rizwan and Nawaz had a partnership going. But it went too long and they batted brilliantly. Games like this can bring the best out of players. There will be times when they will be challenged and things might not go their way. There’s potential in the players and they’ve done it in the past. There’s class in the opposition team as well.”
