Hardik Pandya: “Losing teaches you a lot and where we can get better.”
Australia upset the Indian cricket team by completing a record chase in the opening T20I of the three-match series at Mohali. While batsmen like as Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav shone, the Indian pacers fell short of expectations, particularly in the final overs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave up 15 and 16 runs in his last two overs, while Harshal Patel gave up 22 runs at the close of the innings. India’s four-wicket loss against Australia mirrored their recent losses to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2022. Their failure to stem the run flow in the final overs has lost them a number of games recently. The loss of Jasprit Bumrah, who missed all three games due to injury, was felt by the Men in Blue. Hardik Pandya opined on his teammate’s absence and recognized the lack of great death bowling, using Bumrah’s absence as an example. However, the all-rounder has backed the existing bowlers to do well in the next games.
During the conference post match, Rohit became upset. He put the responsibility on his team’s erratic and inconsistent bowling. Despite scoring 208 in the first T20 versus Australia, India was defeated by four wickets. “I don’t believe we bowled really well. 200 is a strong score to defend, and we didn’t take any chances on the field. Our batsmen put up a terrific effort, but the bowlers were not quite there,” a disappointed Rohit stated at the post-match presentation.
“We all know precisely what Jasprit Bumrah contributes to the team and how essential he is for us,” Hardik Pandya stated after the close loss to Australia. “There will be some misgivings, but we must trust our guys. These are the greatest fifteen people in the country, which is why they are on the squad. Jasprit’s presence definitely makes a major impact, but… he’s coming back from an injury, so it’s crucial to give him enough time to recover without putting too much pressure on himself.”
Chasing a mammoth 209, Australia required 55 off the final four overs, admittedly on a relatively level track, and crossed the line with up to four balls to spare. Bhuvneshwar Kumar let up 15 and 16 runs in his last two overs, in between a 22-run over from Harshal.
“As you can see, we can’t pin anyone down. It’s just a game,” Hardik explained. “They also gave up 24-25 run overs and it didn’t matter. It’s a bilateral series, so we’ll play two more games and attempt to get better.”
