India Test

Delhi will most likely host the Australia’s tour of India test after 5 years

Two of the four sites set for the Border-Gavaskar Test series involving India and Australia in early 2023 are Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium and Dharamsala’s HPCA Stadium.

The capital city, which recently hosted the third One-Day International between India and South Africa, last hosted a Test match in 2017.

The series will be crucial since it will be India’s final four games in the second World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. In fact, India may have to defeat Australia 4-0 in order to be qualified for the summit showdown, which might be a Mammoth job for Rohit Sharma’s team.

“Delhi is likely to host the second of the four Test matches as of now. The dates will be out as and when the Tours and Fixtures committee hold its meeting. Dharamsala, which hosted its first and only Test almost six years back, against Australia in March, 2017, will probably host the third Test,” reporters quoted an unnamed BCCI official.

It is expected that Australia would begin the series in Chennai or Hyderabad, given Bengaluru held a Test match against Sri Lanka earlier this year. That was a night/day test. The season finale is anticipated to be held in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. The BCCI has held three pink-ball Tests so far, the first against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens, the second against England at Motera, and the third against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru.

According to the BCCI’s rotation methodology, Delhi, which missed out during the two-year COVID-19 epidemic, is expected to receive one of the Test matches. In December 2017, the city hosted a Test against Sri Lanka.

With only a few series remaining, India and Australia are leading the World Test Championship. While the Australians will finish the year with six home Tests against South Africa and the West Indies, Rohit Sharma and company will play their final foreign Test series against Bangladesh in December.

These will be Australia and India’s final matches before the ICC World Test Championship final, which will be held at The Oval in London in June next year. Australia presently leads the standings with 70 points, followed by South Africa, Sri Lanka, and India.

Australia has the most Tests remaining in this cycle, with up to nine. Five of them are at home in two series, two against the West Indies & three against South Africa.

India should be optimistic about advancing up the table in their last two series of this cycle. If India scores a flawless six on six, their percentage will increase and will be higher than Australia’s even if they win all five of their home Tests.
