Twitter’s Elon Musk challenges jiu-jitsu-trained Mark Zuckerberg to a fight

Elon Musk has accepted a proposal to prepare for his impending fight against Mark Zuckerberg from famed MMA fighter Georges St-Pierre. Last week, the two tech billionaires agreed to a “cage match” after Mr Musk originally offered it following suspicions that the Meta CEO was working on a new platform to compete with Mr Musk’s Twitter. The UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas is expected to host the event, which has been supported by UFC president Dana White.

Following a Twitter conversation between the two, Musk, known for his quirkiness and involvement in many companies like SpaceX, has agreed to train with none other than UFC Hall of Famer Georges St-Pierre.

Musk would have been a fool to take down the offer – St Pierre is a former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion, and one of the best MMA fighters to ever compete in the cage. It also highlights another aspect of the UFC’s involvement in the bout, with Dana White coming right on board to help promote it.

Mr. Zuckerberg already practises martial arts and just competed in his first jiu jitsu event. Mr Musk, on the other hand, claims to “almost never work out” despite having a substantial size advantage over his adversary.

“I’m a huge fan of yours, and it would be an absolute honour to help you and be your training partner for the challenge against Zuckerberg,” GSP said on Twitter. The French-Canadian fighter has a record of 26-2-0 and has held titles in two separate UFC weight divisions. In 2017, he defeated then-UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping in a stunning win, after which he retired and willingly renounced the belt. Despite his retirement, St-Pierre remains committed to fitness and routinely publishes exercise and training videos on social media.

On Monday evening, the SpaceX, Tesla, and Twitter CEO claimed that he had a “practise round” with podcaster and jiu jitsu fighter Lex Fridman. Last week, Mr Fridman sparred with Mr Zuckerberg, with a video showing the Facebook founder succumbing to the black belt with a choke grip.

The Twitter debate began as joking between Musk and other users, but swiftly evolved into a cage match challenge against Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO. Surprisingly, Zuckerberg accepted the dare, prompting UFC President Dana White to reveal that the two billionaires were “absolutely dead serious” about a fight. White even suggested that this celebrity showdown may become the “biggest fight ever in the history of the world,” shattering all pay-per-view records and collecting hundreds of millions of dollars for charity.

The cage bout was inspired by claims that Meta was working on a Twitter-like programme to compete directly with the platform.

Concerned about a monopoly, Musk tweeted, “I’m sure Earth can’t wait to be exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options.” He then joked about a cage match, which Zuckerberg appeared to embrace by replying, “Send Me Location” on Instagram.

In response, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk recommended Las Vegas as the location for the battle, with the match taking place inside a UFC Octagon. The possible showdown has sparked a lot of interest, and fans are waiting to see if it will happen. Musk has studied Kyokushin karate, taekwondo, judo, and ‘briefly’ Brazilian jiu-jitsu throughout his life, he claimed on Joe Rogan’s show, and he’s previously published a photo of himself wrestling a sumo wrestler.

Speaking of Rogan, Musk even suggested that the controversial podcast host referee their fight, responded with flame emojis on Twitter. Musk, on the other hand, may not find the fight as simple as he believes, given his Meta CEO competitor just placed in a jiu-jitsu event in May.

In any case, UFC president Dana White sees an opportunity and is anxious to play his part in making it a reality.
