Dota 2 TI12 scheduled to begin on 12th October

Valve’s recent statement has sparked enthusiasm among the Dota 2 community. Valve is preparing to unveil a much expected in-game event that tries to fill the hole left by the Battle Pass; the Dota 2 compendium, in order to satiate fans’ demands for in-game content and participation. The countdown has begun, with this event set to take place from September 25th to October 1st, giving a week-long celebration of everything related to Dota 2.

dota2Valve’s recent Dota 2 blog post, released on September 24, confirmed the release date of the compendium, as well as the inclusion of numerous foreign pubstomps in the official broadcast of TI12. The most important Dota 2 event will be held in the autumn of 2023. Teams will compete in the Lima Major 2023, Berlin Major 2023, and Bali Major 2023 prior to TI 12 to decide the direct qualifiers for the group stage.

dota2By direct invitation, twelve teams from the DPC points table will qualify for The International 2023. Another six spots will be awarded to regional qualifiers from Western and Eastern Europe, North and South America, South East Asia, and China.

Valve will also launch a page for TI12 pubstomp signups. Officially sanctioned Dota 2 pubstomps serve as live watching parties for die-hard Dota fans who are unable to attend the championship event in person. Valve aims to cross live to a number of these events on TI matchdays, improving the broadcast’s community component. TI12 will follow the same format as its last edition in Singapore, with competition divided across three weekends: The group stage will be place from October 12 to 15. Playoffs are scheduled for October 20-22. The Finals are scheduled for October 27-29.

dota2The typical two large groups will be replaced with a new group stage arrangement. Instead, four groups of five will be played, with the last team eliminated before proceeding to head-to-head contests, making every match important. There will also be no lower bracket best-of-one series, and each playoff team will have at least one best-of-three series to battle for their life in the tournament.

Compendiums in Dota 2 operate similarly to Battle Passes, but are scaled up further by completing tasks. In comparison to contemporary Battle Passes, the awards were frequently more front-loaded, with the TI5 compendium awarding over 20 items simply for purchasing the compendium for the first time and attaining level 1.

dota2Dota 2 has had compendiums since the game’s inception in 2013. Since then, there have been compendiums for both TI4 and TI5, as well as other side events and seasons. The compendium concept gave birth to the contemporary Battle Pass, which Valve phased down this year. This will be the first “official” TI12 Compendium since 2016.
