India crushes Bangladesh to win by 7 wickets in the opening T20I

In the opening Twenty20 International of the three-match series, India defeated Bangladesh by a comfortable seven wickets on Sunday at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. After bowling Bangladesh out for 127, India needed 49 balls to reach the 128 mark. As asked to bat first, Arshdeep Singh (3/14) removed both openers Litton Das and Parvez Hossain Emon cheaply, putting Bangladesh at 14 for two. Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain, scored 27 runs off of 25 balls, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in 35 runs off 32 deliveries. In order to maintain complete control of the game, Varun Chakravarthy (3/31), Mayank Yadav (1/21), and Washington Sundar (1/12) all claimed wickets in the middle overs. Towards the end, Hardik Pandya also contributed with a wicket. Pandya scored an undefeated forty-nine runs off of just 16 balls, while captain Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson were both dismissed after only 29 runs each.

bcciAfter making his international debut, Arshdeep Singh has advanced significantly, according to remarks made by former India coach Ravi Shastri on the radio. Furthermore, nobody has taken more wickets in T20Is faster than Arshdeep. He was a key player in India’s T20 World Cup victory earlier this year and is renowned for his unwavering composure under pressure. However, in the absence of the commanding Jasprit Bumrah, he has also established himself as the head of the bowling attack in this format.

bcciVarun’s return in Gwalior was not perfect. He gave up 15 runs in his opening over. Nitish Kumar Reddy, making his debut, wasted a simple opportunity at square leg when he could have had a fantastic start. Varun, who seldom displays emotion, didn’t seem too happy, and Bangladesh skipper Najmul Shanto reverse-swept him for a six, adding insult to injury. In the subsequent over, Varun exacted his revenge by dismissing Towhid Hridoy, who had been left terrified by Mayank Yadav’s explosive speed on the opposite end. Not content to stop there, Varun took out Jaker Ali with a faster ball before dismissing Rishad Hossain to cap off an incredible recovery in his debut international encounter in India.

bcciThe Indian crew aiming to complete the 128-day task had a rough start. The first wicket for Team India was lost in the very second over. Sanju Samson, however, and squad captain Suryakumar Yadav led the team forward while standing at one end. Both skipper Surya and Sanju Samson scored 29 runs apiece.Following this, the squad triumphed greatly thanks to scores of 16 and 39 runs respectively from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Hardik Pandya. Hardik scored 39 runs in 16 balls during his innings. In the meanwhile, his bat produced two sixes and five fours. With 49 balls left, Team India won the match by 7 wickets in this manner.

bcciArshdeep Singh: “There was some breeze from the side I was bowling so I used that. I didn’t get the wickets the way I wanted but that’s okay. It’s just minor changes in the run-up, in the wrist. It’s just exploring how I can get better and trying out things. The experience is there. The more you play, the better you get. Really excited the way everyone bowled, especially Mayank. Even my normal balls felt like slower balls compared to his pace. In this format the best thing you can do is adapt to different pitches and conditions.”

bcciSuryakumar Yadav: “We just tried to back our skills and what we decided in the team meeting, we just walked the talk. The way the guys showed their character on the field, first time playing on a new ground, and the way we batted, showed our character. Very excited and looking forward to seeing them in the next games. It’s a good headache to have when you are on the field when you have extra bowling options. You always learn something new playing every game. There will be a few areas to improve, we’ll sit down and talk about it before the next game.”

Najmul Hossain Shanto: “We didn’t start well. In T20s, the first six overs are very important but we didn’t start well. The plan was to play positive cricket and play with intent from the first ball but we had to manage some overs. We need a better plan for the next matches. If we had some wickets in hand, we could have scored 10-15 runs more. Bowling-wise, we didn’t have enough runs on the board. Very hard for the bowlers on a pitch like this. We needed more runs. But I think Rishad bowled well and Fizz as well.”
